Paradise Community Garden Raised Bed Rental Agreement
This Raised Bed Rental Agreement (“Agreement”) is entered into between Paradise Community Garden (operating under Paradise Stronger) and the undersigned Renter/Garden Participant (“Renter”).
1. PURPOSE OF AGREEMENT
The purpose of this Agreement is to grant the Renter the right to use a specified raised bed plot in the Paradise Community Garden for the cultivation of plants and produce while supporting community well‑being, education, and access to fresh food.
Raised beds are intended for family use only and are not to be used for commercial sales. If you have excess produce, please consider sharing with fellow gardeners or donating to local food pantries.
2. RENTAL TERM & FEES
The rental fee is due in full before the beginning of the rental term. No refunds will be issued for early withdrawal once the rental period has started.
Rental Fee:
$15/ month with a 12 Month Commitment
$20/month with a 6 Month Commitment
- Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Returning gardeners may retain their previous season’s plot when possible or receive priority placement.
- Plots may not be reassigned, subleased, or transferred except by the Garden Administrator.
- Plot markers must remain visible at all times.
3. PLOT ASSIGNMENT
The Garden Administrator will assign raised bed plots on a first‑come, first‑served basis. If all beds are full, a waiting list will be maintained and prospective renters will be notified as space becomes available.
4. RENTER RESPONSIBILITIES
The Renter agrees to:
4.1 Use & Cultivation
- Use the raised bed solely for planting, growing, and harvesting plants, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other produce.
- Supply their own seeds, plants, tools, water meter, and piping to bed.
- Maintain the bed (weeding, watering, mulching) in a clean, productive, and safe condition.
- Before installing any structural improvements (trellises, fencing, frames, etc.), plans must be submitted to and approved by the Garden Administrator.
4.2 Community Conduct
- Respect other gardeners and visitors.
- Clean up tools and materials after working in the garden.
- Avoid interference with neighboring beds and walkways.
4.3 Organic Practices
- Use organic or sustainable gardening practices consistent with Paradise Community Garden standards (no prohibited chemicals).
4.4 End of Term
- Remove all personal items and clear their bed of plant material at the conclusion of the rental term, unless otherwise directed.
4.5 Organic Gardening Policy
All plots must be maintained organically.
- The use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers is strictly prohibited.
- Renters are encouraged to consult local Master Gardeners, garden stores, or neighboring gardeners for organic pest control solutions.
- The Garden Administrator may require removal of prohibited substances.
4.6 Plot Maintenance Requirements
Renters are responsible for cultivating, weeding, and watering their assigned plot.
All plots must:
- Remove or trim diseased and pest-infested plants
- Be kept free of weeds and invasive species
- Maintain pathways at original width (crops extending into pathways will be cut back)
- Conserve water at all times
4. 7 Watering Guidelines:
- Stay with the hose while water is on
- Hand-held watering only unless using:
- Drip systems
- Diffusers (Timers required for drip and diffuser systems)
5. ACCESS AND USE
5.1 Access
- All Renters and community members may access the garden during designated hours agreed by the Garden Administrator.
- The garden is open from sunrise to sunset. No one is allowed on the property at night.
- Renter agrees to follow any posted gate/lock procedures and safety protocols.
5.2 Children and Youth Participation
Children are strongly encouraged to participate respectfully in gardening activities.
- A current Registration Form must be filed (required by Paradise Stronger policy).
- Children must be supervised at all times.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for behavior and safety.
6. TOOLS & SITE CLEANLINESS
Renter agrees to:
- Properly use shared equipment and tools
- Return tools to their proper location
- Return wheelbarrows empty
- Place vegetation refuse in designated compost areas
- Remove all non-compostable garbage and recyclables daily
Paradise Community Garden is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property.
7. BANNED PLANTS
The following plants are banned and renters will not plant them:
- Any “illegal” plant
- White and Black Nightshade
- Himalaya Blackberries
- Canna Lily
- Petunias
- Castor Bean
- Jerusalem artichoke
- Mint (unless contained)
- Trees
- Any type of Morning Glory
- Any perennial that grows over six feet tall (weed, domestic, flower) and/or is hard wood
- Any invasive plants that spread aggressively from the original site of planting
- which takes over or overwhelms any nearby plants.
8. CONDUCT & COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS
The Following Are Not Permitted:
- Pets (except certified service animals)
- Motorized vehicles (except small rototillers with approval)
- Smoking, vaping, alcohol, or drug use
- Loud music or disruptive behavior
- Entering another renter’s plot without written permission
- Taking produce or materials that are not yours
Renters are responsible for ensuring that guests:
- Sign in
- Follow all garden rules
- Respect the property and other gardeners
9. GARDEN ADMINISTRATOR AUTHORITY
The Garden Administrator has authority to:
- Enforce garden rules
- Reassign neglected plots after reasonable notice
- Remove unauthorized structures
- Terminate rental privileges for rule violations
Failure to comply with this agreement may result in termination without refund.
10. COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Paradise Community Garden is a place to:

Paradise Community Garden Indemnity and Hold Harmless Acknowledgment
I, the undersigned, understand that participation in some recreation activities is inherently hazardous, and while particular rules, equipment, and personal discipline may reduce the risk, the risk of injury does exist. Some activities may be strenuous and may be affected by adverse weather conditions.
Activities may take place on uneven ground or slippery surfaces. Discomfort and injury may occur. Catastrophic injury, paralysis, or even death can result from participation in some activities. I understand that this waiver of liability covers any activity related to the Paradise Community Garden.
I certify that I am in good health and able to participate in the activities of which I am registered. I assume and agree to hold the Paradise Community Garden and Paradise Stronger, its employees, agents, volunteers and/or sponsors and any other person, firm or corporation charged or chargeable with responsibility or liability, free and harmless from any and all claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses, loss of services, action and causes of action by reason of an accident, illness, injury, death or other consequences arising or resulting directly or indirectly from the use of facilities, equipment, photos, videos, and or participation in any activity sponsored by the Paradise Community Garden.
The undersigned fully understands the scope of the activities for which he she is registered and is voluntarily signing this form. The undersigned gives permission to be photographed/videotaped during participation in any activity sponsored by Paradise Community Garden. The undersigned gives permission for any use of photos or videos without limitation (including public release) or consideration.
It is recommended that all renters carry their own insurance coverage. I, the undersigned, have read, acknowledge, understand, and agree to abide by the statements and information noted above, including the waiver of liability.
